. . . . . After 46 years. . .
|
| Manila,
Philippines. June 15, 2009.
His Excellency Most Rev. Bernardino C. Cortez, D.D. Chairman
of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines
(CBCP) Episcopal Commission on Social Communications and Mass
Media appoints Rev. Fr. Francis B. Lucas as the Acting Executive
Secretary of the Commission effective June 10, 2009, a position
recently vacated by the legendary Rev. Fr. James B. Reuter,
S.J who retired earlier this month after serving for 46 years.
Fr. Francis B. Lucas is the
concurrent President of the Catholic Media Network in the
Philippines- composed of 54 radio stations throughout the
country. An incardinated priest from the Prelature of Infanta,
he devoted most of his 35 years in the priesthood evangelizing
and advocating for environmental, economic and agricultural
development thru media. He is also one of the pioneers advancing
the community broadcasting approach in Asia. Up to this date
is an active media practitioner as a news anchor in the nationwide
radio program “CMN Veritas Pilipinas” and co-anchor
in “The Forum”- a weekly media forum.
This appointment comes timely
as the Catholic Church in the Philippines strives to stimulate
today’s media to “Restore the Church of the Home
and Build the Church of the Poor”. Asked to comment
about his appointment, Fr. Francis Lucas says that he will
“journey with all journalists in the Philippines and
in the world…”
